Cinderella No More; But Awards Keep Coming
March 20, 2026

Buffalo - Yesterday, the Global Board of Trustees and Superintendent celebrated the boys' basketball team for their recent Class C Sectional championship in the CTE cafeteria. This follows their Far West Regional loss at SUNY Buffalo State to Lyons of Section V on Saturday, March 14, just 2 games short of a State public school title in Binghamton and 4 short of a State federation title in Glens Falls.

But if that wasn't all, select players, along with coach Joe Scarsella, were nominated for awards by Western New York Athletics broadcasting, which is hosting its first annual awards dinner this coming Tuesday, March 24, at Riverworks. The team finished in 14th place in the Class C poll from the New York State Sportswriters Association.

Beyond that, co-captains Jose Castro and Eric Dais Jr. were invited to participate in this year's Best of Buffalo showcase on April 2 at 6 and 7:30 p.m. at Sweet Home High School with a $10 admission charge. The Coach's Corner will have its coach and player banquet at the Foundry on April 4.

This group of young men has something rarely seen among competitors - the camaraderie they share. But this season was not just for this group. It's for all the teammates they've had at Global and for the basketball program of the teams that came up just short. It is vindication that Global Athletics is here and isn't going anywhere. The first glory days are definitely here. With track around the corner, looking to have student-athletes qualify for Sectionals in consecutive years, it's been a fantastic start to the 2026 calendar year.
