Special Education

Global Concepts Charter School (GCCS) will educate students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment, with their non-disabled peers, and allowed by students' Individual Education Plans (IEP) as prepared by the Committee on Special Education (CSE) of students' school district of residence.  All special education programs and services at GCCS will be provided in accordance with Education Law § 2853(4) (a) and applicable federal laws and regulations.  GCCS will not discriminate in admission or enrollment practices on the basis of students having or being suspected of having a disability.

Highly qualified and certified special education teachers will provide consultant teacher services, integrated co-teaching services, and resource room services.  Classroom teachers at GCCS will receive support from the special education staff about the needs of students with disabilities; teachers will be informed of their responsibilities for particular students; they will receive the support they may require to implement students' programs; and they will implement any modifications or accommodations in their classes in accordance with students' IEP.

To ensure the provision of services required by an IEP, the staff of GCCS will adopt and follow all required federal regulations outlined in Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) as reauthorized in 2004.  Accommodations will be made within the building according to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  Such accommodations may include building upgrades, door handle replacement, restroom renovations to accommodate handicapped access, exterior modifications to allow unimpeded entry and egress, appropriate ramps and appropriate signage in Braille.
