GCCHS's Art students will participate in -- The Empty Bowls Project of WNY. The term "empty bowls" is a metaphor for people in poverty, and it is a topic that we've covered every year in Studio in Art. Students across WNY (and all over the U.S.A.) in addition to professional artists create an artwork around the theme of helping those in need. The artwork is donated and at the public event, people can come and purchase the artworks with 100% of the proceeds going to a local charity -- Friends of Night People.
This year, students at GCCHS donated a total of 75 "bowls". Take a look at the attached pics to see some examples. The "large" sculptures are replicas of food but the challenge was to build them so that they had a lid and a container. The tiny sculptures (about the size of a quarter) were equally as challenging to build. Students chose which one of their two-part project they wanted to donate and kept the other one. Some were generous enough to donate both!
Attending the EB event is free, and you are welcome to purchase any of the artworks to help this wonderful cause. They are typically priced between 5 - 15 dollars. It occurs at the same time/place as the Buffalo Soup Fest.
