The library is a calm and relaxed atmosphere where literature is shared through read-aloud and related written activities as well as grade level library skills.  Books are leveled according to the Fountas & Pinell guided reading levels. Teachers assign each student with a letter which is placed on the binding of each book in the library. This process makes it easy for the students to view their leveled letter during weekly book exchange. This system helps your child experience the ease of reading books that are at their comfort level.

In addition, the Accelerated Reader Program is coordinated through the school library as a reading resource and provides students with motivation and incentive to help improve their reading capabilities.  AR books are marked throughout the library.  Awards for points are earned through taking AR quizzes.  Each quarter, a reading challenge is held respectively for Grades 1-3 and grades 4-8.  The high achieving class from each group enjoys a celebration in the library at the end of each quarter.  Throughout the school year, class reading progress is displayed on a “Reading Challenge” bulletin board located outside of the library entrance.  We have seen an increased interest and love for reading among our students since the AR program has been utilized.
