Dress Code

 

Student Dress Code Grades 9 - 12

All students are expected to give proper attention to personal cleanliness and to dress appropriately for school and school functions. GCCS has adopted a professional student dress code. Students and their parents have the primary responsibility to ensure acceptable student dress and appearance. Teachers and all other personnel should exemplify and reinforce acceptable student dress, and help students develop an understanding of appropriate appearance at school.

Students are required to follow the mandatory dress code as follows:

Girls:

  •   ―Dickie‖ pants only (Khaki, black, or navy in color) (no jeans/denim) must be straight leg with no rips or tears (no stretch or skinny legged pants)

  •   Skirts or Skorts are to be knee length or longer (Khaki, black, or navy in color)

  •   All shirts must be collared button down Oxford shirts (short or long sleeves), any solid color and

    tucked in with a belt. Shirts may not be unbuttoned past the second button

  •   Sweaters may be navy or white, v-neck or cardigan style

  •   Girls may also wear navy blazers

  •   Undergarments may not be exposed

  •   Girls must wear scarves or ties

  •   Flat shoes only (any color) (no sandals or sneakers)

  •   Boys:

  •   ―Dickie‖ pants only (Khaki, black, or navy in color) with no rips or tears (no stretch or skinny legged

    pants) (no jeans/denim) no cargo pants

  •   Belts must be worn & adjusted to hold pants @ waist level

  •   No undergarments may be exposed

  •   All shirts must be collared button down Oxford shirts (short or long sleeve) any solid color tucked in

  •   Boys must wear ties

 

  •   Sweaters may be navy or white, v-neck or cardigan style

  •   Boys may also wear navy blazers

  •   Dress shoes (no sneakers)

    All dress code items may be found at Flynn & O'Hara, McKays, Target, Walmart, and Sears.

    Boys & Girls Gym Dress Code

  •   Crew neck T-shirts

  •   Sneakers and Socks

  •   Gym/Basketball Shorts(no denim) must be within 2‖ of the Knee

  •   Appropriate Undergarments(non-revealing)

  •   All Students:

  •   Must maintain healthy and safe hygiene and clothes must be clean

  •   No clothing that promotes weapons, alcohol, drugs, racism, violence, representation of gang activity

    including the wearing of colors, sexual content, bullying, harassment, intimidation or profanity

  •   No facial piercings

  •   No bare midriffs are allowed

  •   No baggy, low-rise, multi-colored, or pants with holes are allowed

  •   No hats, bandannas, hoods, do-rags, jackets, scarves or outerwear may be worn inside the building

    (exception for religious or cultural reasons)

  •   No visible tattoos, fake tattoos, painted, colored, or marked skin (except for medical, religious, or

    cultural tradition)

  •   No colored hairsprays, distracting hair accessories, or distracting hair dyes are allowed

  •   All acceptable clothing must be clean, properly sized, and appropriate for the days weather conditions

  •   Unless otherwise notified in writing, students will dress according to the required dress code every day

    In addition, when on school property or at a school function, a student's dress, grooming and

    appearance, including hair style and color, jewelry, make-up and nails, will:

  •   Be safe, appropriate and not disrupt or interfere with the educational process.

  •   Be clean and neat.

  •   Include footwear at all times. Footwear that is a safety hazard will not be allowed.

  •   Not include the wearing of headwear (including but not limited to hats, visors, caps, do-rags, bandanas

    and hoods) of any kind in the classroom except for medical or religious purposes.

  •   Not include the wearing of outside jackets in the school building except for entering or leaving the

    building.

  •   Not include the wearing of hazardous jewelry (including but not limited to spiked jewelry, collars,

    bracelets and wallet chains).

    The building administrator will be responsible for informing all students and their parents of the student dress code at the beginning of the school year and any revisions to the dress code made during the school year. Students who violate the student dress code will be required to modify their appearance by covering or removing the item and, if necessary or practical, replacing it with an acceptable item. Any student who refuses to do so will be subject to disciplinary action in accordance with this Code of Conduct.
